Dr Mike Shipstone

Specialist Veterinary Dermatology

Mike graduated from The University of Queensland in 1984 and has worked in a number of different private practice and industry positions. In 1995 he started a residency in Melbourne, with additional periods of study at the University of California, Davis and Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. He is principle and director of a specialist dermatology referral practice and adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland.

Mike is a Fellow of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists (Veterinary Dermatology) and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology, the only dual boarded veterinary dermatologist in Australia. He is currently the President of the Dermatology Chapter of the Australia College of Veterinary Scientists.  Mike has published in Australia and overseas and has presented in Australia, South East Asia, New Zealand and North America.

Dr John H C Hutt

 Dr John Hutt

John graduated from the University of Queensland in 1988. He worked in general practice in Brisbane for 18 months before travelling to the UK in 1990, where he worked in small animal practice for the next 11 years. He was a clinical assistant in dermatology at the Animal Health Trust from 1998 to 2001.In 2001 John set up North Kent Referrals, a multi-disciplinary referral practice in the south of England, and he owned and ran the practice until its sale in 2012.

John holds the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Dermatology, is a member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists (MANZCVS) by examination in small animal medicine, and is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology and a registered specialist. John is a past President of the British Veterinary Dermatology Study Group.

Following his return to Brisbane in 2013, John joined the team at Dermatology for Animals. Outside of work John's major interest lies in English Literature and in 2006 he completed a Bachelor of Arts at the Open University.

Dr Evie Knight

 Dr Evie Knight

Evie graduated with honours from the University of Melbourne in 2010. After graduation she undertook a rotating internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Queensland Veterinary Specialists and Pet Emergency in Brisbane. Following completion of the internship, she commenced a Dermatology internship at Dermatology for Animals.

Evie was then offered a residency position in Veterinary Dermatology, training under the Australian residency program. Part of this program requires Evie to participate in externships both in Australia and the USA. Evie has fully completed her residency and is now a qualified Registrar.  She lectures frequently at local and national conferences on a range of topics.

Evie currently lives with her very fluffy and spoilt Persian, Roger and a much-loved Bichon, Gary.

Our Nurses


Keira started veterinary nursing in 2007 in general practice.  Since then she has also worked in a large specialist practice.  In March 2012 Keira joined the Dermatology team. Keira spends her spare time with her partner and their range of animals that include parrots, chickens and 2 dogs.


Jess started Veterinary nursing in 2008 at a local general practice clinic on the north shore of Sydney. During her time in general practice Jess completed her Certificate II in Animal Attending and Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. Jess joined us in July 2013 after moving interstate with her partner and cat. Since moving to Brisbane, Jess has since adopted a second cat. In her spare time Jess enjoys the warmer weather of Brisbane and relaxing with her cats.
